Curriculum and Instruction

In the current, factory-model design of many schools in the country, there is the outdated dependence on standardized test scores. Because of this dependence, an excessive amount of valuable learning time is spent preparing students for an intellectually generic method of assessment. It is an obstacle to well rounded learning. It doesn’t foster or develop crucial life learning skills such as problem solving and critical thinking.

Whether you and your school are ready to completely opt out of standardized testing, or would like to design content to teach “beyond the test”, we can collaborate to create ways to ensure that your students are being actively engaged, with assessment methods that capture the true complexity of learning.

Some key ideas that are essential to well planned, engaging learning experiences include:

  • Universal Design for Learning - ensuring that classroom experiences are multi-sensory (visual, aural, oral, and kinesthetic)

  • Culturally Responsive Practice - Zaretta Hammond, her writing, and presentations on CRP are excellent resources.

  • A more robust catalogue of resources and references are on the way…Spring 2020.

I look forward to partnering with you to create modules, units, and lessons that challenge your students as well as creates peer to peer connection and growth that is well within their reach.
